Drawing on Glass – Ipad Adventures

September 6, 2021

Some exciting new developments to share from LVBrown Studios: Last month, I took a giant leap into the digital age by exploring a whole new way of working and drawing…..on the iPad! It allows me to experiment with different mixed media (watercolor, oils, pen and ink, colored pencil, vector art) all in one document.

In August, I created three new digitally illustrated projects, each with a unique artistic feel.

1) A watercolor-inspired interpretive watershed map for a the Colorado River Land Trust’s new brand and membership materials.

2) A painterly David Hockney-inspired navigational webscene map for an environmental service firm’s new interactive website.

3) A gouache-like vector-brush painting for before / after imagery related to forest health and wildfire in Colorado.

What’s even more fun is the drawing app records a time-lapse video of the work in progress, so we can rewind the clock and observe the creative process unfold!

Left Hand Watershed Center’s science and outreach staff have already used draft illustrations to engage children and the public in conversations about forest health, restoration, and resilience in the St. Vrain Watershed.

LVB’s current challenge is to synthesize forest ecology, wildlife, recreation, water resource impacts, and a patchwork mosaic of forest restoration activities into one succinct, instructional visual image.

Stay tuned for the complete composition in October’s newsletter.
