Ecological restoration master plan

Krier Conservancy Master Plan

Client: B. Bruce Krier Land Conservancy Foundation Inc, Eco-Resource Consulting Inc.

Belgium, WI | 2019

LVBrown Studios provided a future vision for Krier Conservancy, a 445-acre historic agricultural property along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The B. Bruce Krier Conservancy commissioned LVB through a contract with Eco-Resource Consulting (ERC) to develop a 20-year vision for the property. ERC authored the property’s Land Management Plan and actively oversees restoration and educational activities at the site, including wetland restoration, prairie burns, and woodland management.

The mission of Krier Conservancy is to rebuild soil health through a working agricultural landscape while fostering environmental stewardship by providing an immersive outdoor classroom for local students.

The Master Plan illustrates 165-acres of Nature Preserve program in restored sections of wetland, woodland, prairie—including visitor and maintenance access, nature trails, overlooks, and educational structures. 320-acres will remain in working agricultural production with an integrated mix of regenerative agriculture—including rotational grazing and small grains.

The project involved researching the history of the Krier family business and their relationship to the land using local and state archives. Lauren also conducted interviews and farm visits with organic and conservation farmers, grain distillers, rotational-grazing specialists, and soil science researchers. Final master plan deliverables include illustrative poster-sized Master Plan exhibits accompanied by a comprehensive written report.
